SEPARATION / CLARIFICATION

 Oil/Water Separation

ElectroWave® power input, field strength and polarity can be adjusted to:

  • increase the interfacial tension between oil and water
  • reduce the viscosity of water
  • increase the contact angle between oil droplets and the continuous water phase

Benefits include:

  • Improved performance of phase separation equipment
  • Accelerated recovery of oil from production fluids
  • Enhanced removal of oil coating suspended solids in production fluids
  • Reduced hydrocarbon injected in disposal wells and/or waterflood formations 

Water Clarification

ElectroWave® power input, repetition rate and polarity can be adjusted to:

  • reduce the viscosity of water
  • increase contact angle between suspended solids and water
  • lower zeta potential of suspended solids so they drop out of suspension

Benefits include:

  • Accelerated settling rates of suspended solids
  • Improved efficiency of filtration media and membranes
  • Reduced size and volume of suspended solids discharged from filters
  • Cleaner water injected into waterflood and/or disposal well formations

 

Improved extraction of hydrocarbons, suspended solids and other contaminants from water injected into a waterflood or disposal well preserves the integrity of the injection formation and reduces maintenance costs.

 

FLUID MIXING & BLENDING

WILSA® conditioning provides more efficient dispersion of chemicals in water and effective blending of materials into aqueous-based mixtures.

ElectroWave® field strength and polarity can be adjusted to:

  • reduce the surface tension and viscosity water
  • reduce the cohesion energy of water
  • lower the contact angle between a dissimilar material and water

Benefits include:

  • Lower surface tension and viscosity of water alters its cohesion energy – making it “wetter”
  • Improved “wetting” allows chemicals to disperse more efficiently throughout the bulk of a volume of water
  • Reduced “fish eyes” and clusters of solids that form during mixing of bentonite, guar gum and other bulk materials that inherently repel water and resist blending
  • Effective blending of drilling muds and completion fluids into homogenous mixtures

ElectroWave® Conditioning may also be utilized in the regeneration of drilling muds and completion fluids.

 

ENHANCED FLUID FLOW

Altering the viscosity and cohesion energy of water and water-based fluids enhances flow characteristics.

ElectroWave® power input, field strength and polarity can be adjusted to:

  • reduce the surface tension and viscosity water
  • reduce the cohesion energy of water
  • increase the contact angle between the inner surface of a flow line and water

Benefits include:

  • Lower pumping pressure / increased flow rates of water pumped through piping systems
  • Reduced injection pressure in waterfloods and disposal wells
  • Efficient pumping of muds and fluids
  • Enhanced injection rates of frac fluids

Reducing the viscosity and cohesion energy of water and water-based fluids pumped under pressure increases the flow rate of a fluid pumped at a constant pressure and/or reduces the pressure required to propel a volume of a fluid at a constant flow rate.
